Deadstring Brothers: Country Toughs from the Motor City It may be a surprise to hear the country rock sounds of Detroits Deadstring Brothers coming from a city better known for loud rock and roll, but disillusionment can take many channels. Desolation, frustration and regret have always been present where great country music was played, and from its bombed-out inner city to its sterile suburbs, Detroit has its share.
Deadstring Brothers began in fall 2003. Since then, the band has worked to develop their own take on the American Sound, drawing influences from a variety of sources. Its all in there somehow, declares Kurt, but blues and country music just feel the most natural.
Not unlike Exile-era Stones, Deadstring Brothers deliver a menacing sound that draws equally on the melancholy of country ballads and the abandon of rock and blues. The bands music is deeply rooted in the storytelling and instrumental traditions of Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, and the American Outlaw Movement, but is also informed by the song structure and understated aggression commonly associated with Detroit bands. Their haunting melodies reveal the influence of early 70s rock icons like The Band and Gram Parsons and The Faces. Deadstring Brothers live performances have the energy of guitar rock, but sophisticated arrangements, Hammond Organ and a focus on traditional American music separate them from many of their Detroit contemporaries.
The band has been touring steadily since the 2004 release of their eponymous debut and have shared the stage with acts ranging from Shooter Jennings, Cat Power and Jesse Sykes to Giant Sand, My Morning Jacket, Drive by Truckers and the Mekons

Everything Everything
Imagine a band who fuse three part harmonies with scalding post-punk guitars; floor-filling bass lines with syncopated rhythms and lyrics about everything from high-school massacres to R&B lotharios musing on their lot in a post-apocalyptic wilderness…
What you probably have is exactly what lead singer, Jonathan Higgs intended to create when Everything Everything began life as Higgs began making music in his bedroom – His one rule, he states “was not to sound like anyone else.”
Recently signed to Geffen, 2010 sees the year Everything Everything could literally, well, have everything. En route to the release of their debut album ‘Man Alive’ they have acquired fans ranging from Zane Low to 6Music’s Marc Riley as well as being Selected for BBC's "Sound of 2010" poll.
After two amazing shows at Hamptons in 2009, the band return to Southampton for the third time this time at Joiners as part of their UK tour in support of the release of ‘Man Alive’ - your chance to catch them one last time in Southampton in an intimate setting, before they ascend….
“It is brilliance. EE are wilfully eccentric, and endlessly entertaining” – BBC
“Hugely inventive pop music. One of the most talked about new groups in the country.” Clash

More than a quarter century has passed since the release of Willie Nile’s first album, accompanied by press notices comparing him to Dylan and Springsteen. The enthralling new Streets of New York finds the artist in his mid-fifties, his youthful energy unflagging, and he’s never sounded more committed to the themes he’s tackled. They range from the title track—a gritty paean to his adopted hometown that he describes as “my love song to the city”—to the chilling “Cell Phones Ringing (in the Pockets of the Dead),” his unflinching response to the 2004 Madrid train bombings.
Some who have heard the album describe it as Nile’s London Calling, a characterization prompted not only by his rousing cover of “Police on My Back,” the Eddy Grant-written classic that appeared on Sandinista!, but also by his own hot-rod reggae tune “When One Stands”; both reveal Nile’s deep spiritual kinship with the Clash, as does the outspokenness that spews out from songs like “Game of Fools” and “Best Friends Money Can Buy.”
Nile is a songwriters’ songwriter. No less a personage than Lucinda Williams has said of him, “Willie Nile is a great artist. If there was any justice in this world, I’d be opening up for him instead of him for me.” And he’s never been more eloquent than he is here. Lou Reed hails Streets of New York as “a great album,” while Graham Parker calls it “a real gem—stirring melodies, passionate vocals, intriguing lyrics…every track a winner.” Says Ian Hunter, “Willie’s from the big-hearted downtown alleyways of NYC (New York commitment). Well done!” Little Steven adds, “Willie Nile is so good I can’t believe he’s not from New Jersey!”
Nile grew up in Buffalo, New York, part of a bustling Irish Catholic family with what he calls “an open-door policy.” For as far back as Willie can remember, his parents welcomed house guests from around the world for extended stays, and “the cosmopolitan nature of the world kind of rubbed off,” he says. After studying philosophy at the University of Buffalo, he headed for Greenwich Village, determined to make a name for himself as a latter-day troubadour. That he did throughout the ’70s, becoming a fixture in the Village folk and rock scenes and getting tabbed as the next big thing to come out of that long-thriving artistic community. Writing in The New York Times, the great rock critic Robert Palmer called him “one of the most gifted singer-songwriters to emerge from the New York scene in years.”
Willie has supported bruce springstein various times, and played with loads of living legends
Support comes from the Mickey kemp Band

Union Sound Set
The House That Love Built Presents
Union Sound Set
The Last Republic
Soma High
Boasting a new line-up, a new sense of purpose and a new album destined to blow the roof off 2010, London’s Union Sound Set rise from the still flaming ashes of hotly-tipped soar-rockers Prego.
Having completed tours with the likes of The Boxer Rebellion, The Stills, Red Light Company, People In Planes and Fightstar last year, the band took on a new guitarist Dan Best and drummer Alex Walker and set about recording their incredible debut album ‘Start Stop’, due for release in October on Mighty Atom and produced by Manics and Spiritualized knob-twiddler Guy Massey.
Finding their line-up bolstered and their epic shimmer rock sound gaining beef and mettle in the vein of Band Of Horses and The National on tracks like ‘Here’s To You’ and ‘Years Days Months’, the band felt like the release was a new start. Enter Union Sound Set: new kings of UK post-rock, set to shatter minds and speakers across the globe.
- Mark Beaumont (NME)
“Choruses the size of new-build Far East skyscrapers and breakdowns as skin-prickling as the finest instrumentalists out there in post-rock land” -Drowned in Sound “Brilliant. They make massive-bollocked’ new shoe’ rock and will make you feel so much in heat you’ll rub your arse ragged on the new lino” NME
The Last Republic were formed in 2008 after a series of chance meetings, broken keyboards and other bands splitting up.
Guitarist Dafydd Anthony and singer Jonnie Owens didn’t know each other, but they’d seen each other play at the notorious rock venue The Duke of Wellington in Neath, South Wales. With their respective bands falling apart, Dafydd contacted Jonnie to see if he’d like to try putting a band together. Neither of them knew it at the time, of course, but this phone call would mark the beginning of what was about to become The Last Republic.
After several false starts, Daf and Jonnie were soon joined by two more local faces; a powerful and dynamic rhythm section in the form of drummer Aron Harris and bassist Joey Daniels. Keyboard player Dave Llewellyn soon completed the line-up. After driving fifty-miles to have his keyboard repaired at a shop in Swansea, Dave spotted an advert on the shop’s door from a band looking for a keyboard player. A phone call was made, a rehearsal was arranged and The Last Republic was born.
After gigging their way around South Wales’ and London’s club circuits, The Last Republic soon forged a reputation as a ‘must see’ live act. However, The Last Republic’s first big break occurred in 2009 after entering themselves into Virgin Media’s TV competition ‘The Road To V ‘, which counted The Young Knives and Bombay Bicycle Club amongst its previous winners.
After weeks of TV coverage, The Last Republic beat 3500 bands to win ‘The Road To V’. Receiving over 20,000 votes in the final, The Last Republic won the right to play on the Main Stage at the 2009 V Festival, sharing the bill with the likes of Oasis and The Killers in front of an estimated 10,000 people each day.
In the run up to the Road To V, The Last Republic received airplay from Radio 1 DJ’s Zane Lowe and Huw Stephens, and were playlisted by XFM and awarded the Record of The Week accolade on Claire Sturgess’ NME Radio show.
After supporting the likes of The Charlatans and Placebo, The Last Republic continued to expand their fiercely loyal fanbase with a five-week tour of the UK during Autumn 2009.
On June 11th, 2010, The Last Republic performed in front of 24,000 people at London’s O2 Arena, after being chosen by Kerrang! Radio as the support act for rock legends Bon Jovi. The Last Republic were chosen from over 900 bands to land this most prestigious of gigs.
The Last Republic’s debut album, ‘Parade’, is scheduled for release on September 20th 2010. Recorded at the legendary Monnow Valley Studios in Monmouthshire, Wales, the album is currently being mixed in Los Angeles by Andrew Scheps, who has previously worked with artists as diverse as U2, Metallica, Johnny Cash, Michael Jackson & The Mars Volta.
The Last Republic release their long awaited debut single ‘(C’Mon) Flood The Gates’ on July 12th 2010 and will appear at several festivals across the UK during the summer, and will announce the details for another UK tour shortly.
“…speaking of the future, here are a band who have a big part in it.”
– Zane Lowe – BBC Radio 1
“The Last Republic are making a name for themselves as purveyors of soaring epic anthems…Catchier than the clap and dressed sharper than razors, it’s clear that The Last Republic have the proverbial ‘bigger things’ lined up squarely in their crosshairs.”
– Huw Stephens, BBC Radio 1
“This band f**ing rocks!”
- Bruce Dickinson, Iron Maiden – BBC 6 Music
“The Last Republic have unbelievable vision.”
- XFM (Manchester & London)
“I really like The Last Republic’s sound, a real mix bag of influences without ever sounding too much like anyone of them”
- Jo, Jo, Total Rock Radio
Soma High are a rock band from the South Coast. Their new ambitious and energetic EP with tracks,” Something about you, Flash-back Tuesday and We don’t want this” demonstrates the band pushing the boundaries of modern melodic punk rock and mixing it with their own brand of pop-tastic groove. Produced by the Animal Farm it is due for digital very soon! Since the guys got together a strong local fan base has shown consistent support for Soma High’s enthusiasm for experimentation which has been demonstrated through their impressive evolution. They now bring to the table widely commercial EP that builds on the frantic pace and appeal of their last single Lo Fat. Vocalist and song writer Sean Strugnell sings about love, modern life and thoughts and emotions that are current and significant in today’s climate. Bassist Leon Azor brings in a groove that flows much like drummer Ryan Smith, who’s beats and rolls bring energy and presence to the band whilst Keyboardist Paul Wolf delivers Atmospheric synth and powerful keys. Recently they have supported Razor light, Cage the Elephant, The Baddies, and Supergrass’s ‘Hot Rats’ REVIEWS
'Lo Fat' by SomaHigh has the potential to be a big 'hit'; its full-on vibe and punchy groove should see it getting loads of radio exposure and SomaHigh could be on the brink of pop notoriety! (www.toxicpete.co.uk)
SomaHigh’s debut EP, “Lo Fat” is a different beast altogether, and is set to explode across the pop firmament sounding like some sort of 21st century synth thrash version of the Sex Pistols. Guitars slice through electro beats and soaring vocals create a huge wall of sound, frightening in its intensity yet utterly (butterly*) compelling. http://vonpipmusicalexpress.wordpress.com/
The chorus of “You can’t outsmart me! You’re a moron!” is crying out to be merchandised to death and hey, why not! I can see that t-shirt being all over every festival this summer. (www.mintsouth.com)
Britain's leading exponents of Cumbia, the rootsy music most closely associated with Colombia. Atlantico present "Music Tropical" at it's very steamiest and most contagious. You just won't be able to sit still when this band is playing. As sensuous, swaying and spirited as a sultry Colombian night. Put on your dancing shoes and catch this infectious ensemble now. No dance lessons needed. Baila mi Cumbia

COAST are a celtic rock band from Southampton. They have a wide range of influences from the likes of Hebrides rockers Runrig to those Geordie coal miners Dire Straits!! With the sound of Big Country and Runrig in mind they set out recording demo songs which they would hopefully re- record later on down the line, until Paul ( the singer) had a sudden realisation that these demos were actually sounding quite pro. So they decided to push out what is now being known as the single.. “The Great Crowd”. The lineup of Coast started out with lead singer and composer Paul Eastham.
Lead vocals.
Paul Eastham. Paul has been in a number of bands including the industrial metal outfit from 2003 "WINTER OF CLOWNS". He also co/produced and co/wrote the talented singer AIMEE DUFFY,S (now known as Duffy) first ever single. titled. "Aimee Duffy" This reached No. 7 in the Welsh charts, currently No.1 Paul also writes and records classical music . check out the links page for more info. His time spent as a child in the Hebrides has remained a strong input on his vocal style and his song writing.
Percussion.
Chris Barnes . Chris (Paul's brother), as we know the same as Paul, spent some time growing up in the Outer Hebrides. at the age of 7, he was learning the snare drum in the ”BLACKPOOL CALADONIAN PIPE BAND”. They were also in a band together 10 years ago along with acoustic guitarist Alec, called “ATLANTIS”. His percussive and dynamic energy is a vital part to the rhythm of COAST.
Acoustic guitars.
Alec Stone. Alec is a great songwriter and a key part to the sound of Coast. His acoustic guitar carries a sound to die for.
Lead guitars.
Bass guitar.
Drums.
Mark Mongan (Mongo). Started playing with a Southampton based band called Colony Earth in the early part of the 1980's. Were featured on the channel 4 programme The Tube and ended up getting a deal with Virgin records. Toured the UK, Holland and Germany. The band split around 1986.
Spent the next couple of years doing session work/demos at various studios whilst doing live work/recordings with local Indie bands The Chairs, Rain, Honeysun and Jinder gigging mainly around the south/London clubs.
Formed a band with the Canadian Rob Ford of Stoaters/Pogues fame around 2005 playing both Drums and Percussion until he got called back to the states to do movie scores.
Continued playing percussion freelance mainly until a phone call in my local Bar introduced me to a great bunch of guys that go under the banner of COAST.
Keyboards.
Paul Eastham.
Coast signed with AWEN records in 2007. The release of their first single “ The Great Crowd” is proving to be a success. The growing radio play and fanbase are a real insight into the future of Coast.

‘the undisputed heavyweights of comedy pop’ Robert Spellman, Daily Express
‘a band like the Bonzos only comes along once in a lifetime’ Shindig
‘like a ripe fungi sending spores of comedy far and wide’ Worcester News
‘increasingly legendary!’ threeweeks
Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band fans will be delighted to learn that Roger Ruskin Spear, Rodney Slater and Sam Spoons have teamed up with super-pianist Dave Glasson to create more fun, music and subversive diversion in the spirit of the ageless band. ‘a sort of Bash Street Bonzos’ Roger RS
The Bonzos have appeared with members of Monty Python, The Beatles, Eric Clapton, The Kinks and The Who as well as having a Top 5 hit with Urban Spaceman. The musical missing link between The Goons and Monty Python, they featured as the house band on Do Not Adjust Your Set, a fore-runner of Monty Python, with Michael Palin, Eric Idle and Terry Jones, as well as a young David Jason. Comedians Stephen Fry, Adrian Edmondson, Eddie Izzard, Chris Morris and Bill Bailey have all named the Bonzos as a formative influence.
For those who missed the recent (and possibly final) Bonzos re-union tour or wish to re-live those glorious times, Three Bonzos And A Piano will provide a very entertaining, life affirming ‘hair of the dog’. Dadaism for the New Age delivered by the Old Sculptors of Surrealism-Vivian Stanshall's legacy is heartily celebrated.
New cd Hair Of The Dog‘poking a big pink tongue at contemprary mores, they're as sharp today, both musically and satirically, as they ever were’ John Blaney, Shindig
Roger Ruskin Spear sax, clarinet, trouser press & robots
Rodney Slater Bonzos co-founder with the late Viv Stanshall-saxophones & washboard
Sam Spoons drums, electric spoons & didgereedon’t
Dave Glasson piano, bass pullover & glasses
Andy Roberts re-union guest on gtr, banjo & ukulele
‘After a week of road sweeping, this was colossal!’ Lord Henry of Uppingham
‘panto for adults-and wonderfully enjoyable’ Plymouth Herald
‘still cause giggling like nothing else in pop’ Daily Express
‘daft mayhem lives on’
‘Please dont ever grow up’ Henry Smith
‘There is chaos, there is anarchy, and then there is a Three Bonzos And A Piano show’ The Argus
‘Lampoons of every genre, style and pose performed with madcap good humour and unrehearsed idiocy did not prevent us from thrilling to the genuine anarchy which spilled over, into and onto the lucky audience. A classic.’ Ralph Brown
Diabolical mayhem from the largest number of Bonzos still playing together anywhere on the surface of the earth. Born in a distant art school past somewhere in the sixties, Three Bonzos And A Piano unleash their Bonzo Dog classics with energetic zip and palaver. Jollity Farm, Hunting Tigers Out In India, I'm Bored, My Pink Half of the Drainpipe, Big Shot, Monster Mash, The Trouser Press, Can Blue Men Sing The Whites? and many more.
Robots, smoke, unsuitable medical technology, ancient theatrical props, the kitchen sink and the audience (you get to join-in!) all combine to re-create the atmosphere of those formative years of the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band at such legendary venues as The Tiger’s Head, Catford. Addictive stuff. You have been warned!
